United Way of Southwest Alabama VITA Free Tax Prep
The United Way of Southwest Alabama offers free tax preparation to qualified individuals each year. Through the South Alabama Free E-file (SAFE) Coalition, they provide several opportunities for individuals to work with qualified professionals to file taxes electronically through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. If you had a household income of $54,000 or less in the year 2017, you qualify. If you are over the age of 60 you also qualify for free tax filing services.
To find your tax filing site nearest you, call 2-1-1 from any phone and call specialists will direct you to your local tax prep center.
Alabama eID Program
The Alabama Department of Revenue is offering a free service to individuals and families filing taxes this year. How it works is visiting AlabamaeID.com and set up a trusted ID credential for filing your online taxes. In doing this your tax returns recieve priority processing. The hopes is this will cut back on tax fraud and protect you.
The Alabama Department of Revenue advises that if you receive an e-mail from someone claiming to represent the Alabama Department of Revenue and seeking personal or financial information, do not reply.
